Prediabetes is a condition where blood sugar levels are higher than normal but not high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes. It increases the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and stroke.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC):
Prediabetes is a warning sign. Without intervention, many people with prediabetes will develop type 2 diabetes within 5 years. However, lifestyle changes can prevent or delay the onset of diabetes.
